About

"Darla" is an all-original 1955 travel trailer, tucked in a private camping spot on our beautiful property only 6 miles from Mt. Rainier National Park! Featuring vintage decor, kitchenette, string lights, picnic table, gas fire pit, lounge chairs, hammock, separate bathroom trailer with hot shower, and access to the lodge hot tub! Located at the edge of the town of Ashford and walking distance to restaurants and shops, this is the perfect base for all of your Mt. Rainier adventures!

Good to know

Darla is tucked in the back of our property that we call the "Ashford Lodge", an old bed and breakfast that we bought in early 2021 and have been fixing up to turn it into a fun mountain retreat! You'll have a whole back section of our property to yourself. The trailer is secluded and surrounded by tall trees on three sides, with a large south-facing lawn out the front that lets in sunshine, and a gorgeous old-growth maple tree providing afternoon shade. "Darla" was built in 1955, and she looks almost exactly like she did when she rolled off the assembly line! Head inside, and you'll instantly be transported back in time, with wood-paneled walls, cozy lighting, ice box, and vintage dinette. The bed features warm flannel sheets and a down comforter with plaid duvet cover and 4 soft pillows. Note that the bed is only a bit larger than a twin, so it's a cozy fit for two average-sized adults, but that's part of the fun! The kitchenette has everything you need to prepare simple meals. The sink has running potable water (cold only!), and we supply pots and pans to use for cooking. Note that the inside stove is currently out of order, but there is a two-burner outdoor camp stove on the picnic table. We of course also supply silverware, plates, bowls, glasses, and mugs. To get you going in the morning, there is fresh-ground coffee and a French Press coffee maker, with sugar, creamer and tea as well. The kitchenette has an icebox for keeping food cool (it's not a fridge, it needs ice!) You can buy a block of ice from Ashford Grocery right across the street to keep your food cool; as the ice melts it will simply drain out the back. Just a heads up that the icebox is quite small, so if you want to keep a lot of food cool you may want to bring a separate cooler! Outside the trailer, there is a sturdy picnic table for enjoying meals or card games surrounded by fresh air. You can also relax in the hammock hung between two spruce trees, and enjoy your morning coffee in the lounge chairs overlooking the lawn and maple tree! There is also a propane fire table so you can stay cozy at night and get your s'mores fix! The propane fire allows you to have an outdoor fire even during (most) summer burn bans, and doesn't require firewood. Behind the trailer is our custom-made glamping bathroom! Artfully created with reclaimed wood, windows, and rustic whimsical touches, it features a hot shower, flush toilet, and sink with hot water. We provide high-end Beekman 1802 bath products (shampoo, conditioner, and body wash), as well as all towels. You will also have access to our property's hot tub, in a private setting in the garden behind our guest house! The hot tub is in a beautiful wooden gazebo for privacy, and features string lights on an adjustable dimmer. The hot tub is shared with our two other guest units and is "first-come-first-served"; we ask that guests limit their soaks to an hour to give everyone time to enjoy. You can also use the gas BBQ and picnic table in our separate BBQ gazebo behind the guest house. Bring your own steaks or burgers and have yourself a cookout! Or, if you'd rather someone else does the cooking for you, just walk right next door to BaseCamp Bar and Grill for burgers, pizzas, and a large craft beer selection. They close at 7, so get there early! Our property backs right up to Ashford County park with its network of hiking trails (you might see the occasional person walking along the trail that goes behind the camper, but a row of cedar trees provides ample privacy). Find the gap in the trees and take a morning stroll along the trails yourself! Note that our WiFi doesn't currently reach all the way out to the trailer, and cell service is limited on our property (T-Mobile works well, but others are a bit weak). If you need WiFi, feel free to come sit in the guest gazebo behind our guest house; we will provide WiFi login info upon check-in. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to send us a message!

Neighborhood

Ashford is the last little town before reaching the entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park, and is a quiet, friendly little place! First of all, our property backs right up to Ashford County Park, with a mile of easy hiking trails through some pretty woods! Grab a morning coffee and go for a nice walk! We have a gravel trail that leads from our property to the park (walk from the hot tub towards the travel trailer and you'll see it!) Dining options: BaseCamp Bar and Grill - Located RIGHT NEXT to our property (seriously, just a short walk) they feature great pizzas, burgers, local craft beer, and outdoor seating! They close at 8pm. Trailhead Bar and Grill - Another easy walk, if you're looking for something later, they are open til midnight and feature fantastic burgers and drinks. Breakfast: If you're looking for something simple, the Cafe at Whittaker's Bunkhouse is just a short walk up the road and features great espresso drinks and breakfast sandwiches. Copper Creek Restaurant - If you're looking for a hearty breakfast, this is the place! A 5 minute drive towards the park entrance, this legendary local spot has the stacks of pancakes and hearty omelets you're looking for. Be sure to get some of their blackberry pie, it's famous for a reason! Groceries and Gas: Ashford Grocery is one of two little general stores. They have basic groceries, including a wide selection of good-quality microwaveable meals if you're looking for something cheap and easy, as well as a gas station with both gas and diesel. Suver's General Store, also within walking distance, has more grocery options and assorted odds and ends if you forgot something at home.

Guest Access

You can drive right up to the trailer and park; just head up our driveway to the left of the main yellow house; you will see Darla straight back up the driveway.

I had a delay in plans and ended up checking in late which was not an issue, for this is a self check-in that is very easy to find even in the dark. The space is so quaint and lovely with a fully functional bathroom right next to the trailer. It was extremely cold outside the night I stayed but there is a space heater that warms the interior up in no time. I did not get a chance to use the hot tub, but the hot tub area was also very nicely designed and available to use even late at night I definitely recommend this stay to anyone in the area!!

Great spot, especially right now when a lot of the spots closer to Mt. Ranier are closed for the season. Scott was super communicative and the hot tub was great after a day of hiking 🙂

Darla the RV was so charming. It was cold and rainy outside but we stayed warm and cozy inside. The hot tub was a great amenity. The bathroom was modern and clean. Would go back!

Very satisfied with the experience. Best for couples. Bed might be a little small for tall people. Bathroom was very clean, hot water is available. Instructions were clear and the place was very cute. Perfect place to stay if you want to go to Mt. rainier, also near restaurants and there’s a great coffee place across the street.
