Good to know

Kautz Cabin Suite has everything you need for a Mount Rainier getaway! Whether you're looking for an adventure basecamp or a cozy place to relax, we have you covered. The "Ashford Lodge" is an old bed and breakfast that we bought and renovated in 2021, turning it into a super fun mountain retreat! There is a big main house, guest house, and retro-trailer "glampground", with a shared hot tub, BBQ gazebo, and gardens. The Kautz room is located in our guest house, which has two other cabin suites. Each room has it's own private entrance, and there is a double layer of heavy insulation in the walls to keep noise down to a minimum. This small but cozy room features vintage rustic decor that will transport you back to a simpler time. The queen-size bed has flannel sheets and a pillow-top mattress to help you sleep like a baby, and there is a whisper-quiet AC unit to keep you at a comfortable temperature all night long. Fire up the gas fireplace and grab a good read off the bookshelf! There is a big selection of local guidebooks, nature books, and vintage treasures, so cozy up in front of the fire and nurture your inner bookworm! Best of all, you can watch movies from bed on the huge 100" projector! The smart projector is stocked with all the major streaming apps, and we supply a complimentary subscription to both Netflix and Amazon Prime Video! Bring the popcorn and cozy up for an epic movie night! The room also features a mini-kitchenette with the basics: Coffee maker (drip style) and fresh ground coffee from local roaster Campfire Coffee Company! We supply sugar, creamer, and tea, as well as a microwave and small mini-fridge. There are also mugs, glasses, bowls, silverware, napkins, and a wine/bottle opener. The bathroom features a shower stocked with top-quality Beekman 1802 shampoo, conditioner, and bodywash. Towels, washcloths, and hairdryer will be ready and waiting for you. Outside the room, you'll have access to the shared hot tub, tucked back in a private space in our garden away from all the rooms. It's located in a gazebo, so you can enjoy it even when it's raining! The hot tub is shared with guests in our other rooms and is first come, first served; we just ask that guests limit their hot tub time to an hour or so other guests get a chance to relax too. There is separate gazebo with gas grill and picnic table in our garden where you can grill up some post-hike burgers, and a hammock so you can relax in the sunshine! Our property also backs right up to Ashford County Park, which features a small network of paved trails that meander through beautiful woods! Follow our small gravel trail (look for the gravel going into the woods between the hot tub and vintage travel trailer) to connect up with the main park trail, and enjoy and nice evening stroll!

Neighborhood

Ashford is the last little town before reaching the entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park, and is a quiet, friendly little place! First of all, our property backs right up to Ashford County Park, with a mile of easy hiking trails through some pretty woods! Grab a morning coffee and go for a nice walk! We have a gravel trail that leads from our property to the park (walk from the hot tub towards the travel trailer and you'll see it!) Dining options: BaseCamp Bar and Grill - Located RIGHT NEXT to our property (seriously, just a short walk) they feature great pizzas, burgers, local craft beer, and outdoor seating! They close at 8pm. Trailhead Bar and Grill - Another easy walk, if you're looking for something later, they are open til midnight and feature fantastic burgers and drinks. Breakfast: If you're looking for something simple, the Cafe at Whittaker's Bunkhouse is just a short walk up the road and features great espresso drinks and breakfast sandwiches. Copper Creek Restaurant - If you're looking for a hearty breakfast, this is the place! A 5 minute drive towards the park entrance, this legendary local spot has the stacks of pancakes and hearty omelets you're looking for. Be sure to get some of their blackberry pie, it's famous for a reason! Groceries and Gas: Ashford Grocery is one of two little general stores. They have basic groceries, including a wide selection of good-quality microwaveable meals if you're looking for something cheap and easy, as well as a gas station with both gas and diesel. Suver's General Store, also within walking distance, has more grocery options and assorted odds and ends if you forgot something at home.

Guest access

We have three parking spaces right behind our guest house, so you can park right next to your room. There is a keypad on the door; we'll send you the code before check-in so you can let yourself in. Our property is located on the edge of Ashford, and is walking distance to two restaurants, a cafe, and two general/convenience stores.

The Ashford Lodge is a gem! I loved the vintage theme and the sweet cabin decor. The property is absolutely charming and feels like your own private retreat. We didn't encounter a single soul on the trails in the park behind the property- the birds and chipmunks were surprised to see us and the woods were lush with wildflowers and alive with streams. We couldn't resist watching something on the rare big screen (only should have thought sooner to pick something cinema-graphic like an Akira Kurosawa film!) and we felt warm and cozy the whole time. It was very convenient to walk next door and eat at Base Camp, where we had a drink by the outdoor bonfire there. (We could have had our own outdoor fire with the wood provided, if only we'd had more time.) This place is a steal, real value for the price!!
