Good to know

About Ashford Lodge: Ashford Lodge is a 3-acre property nestled on the edge of the small town of Ashford, consisting of a 1917 main lodge (where Summit Suite is located), separate guest house with 3 studio cabin suites, and vintage trailer glampground operating in the summer months! The lush grounds feature a hot tub, covered gazebo with gas grill and picnic table, fire pit, hammocks, and paths that lead to Ashford County Park with its beautiful network of paved trails. About the Summit Suite: The Summit Suite occupies the entire top floor and back half of the main lodge, a beautiful and historic 1917 Craftsman house that we've lovingly restored to retain its vintage charm! Upon arriving at Ashford Lodge, you can park in the dedicated Summit Suite parking area in front of the main lodge, and access your suite via the keypad on the side door under the "Summit Suite" sign. The bottom floor features a kitchenette and bathroom. The kitchenette features a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, Keurig coffee maker with a selection of coffee pods (there is also a french press if you prefer to bring your own grounds), electric water kettle with selection of Stash teas, as well as sugar and creamer. There is no full stove or oven, but we do provide an electric griddle and hot plate for cooking basic meals, as well as a microwave and slow cooker. We provide a full set of dishware, glassware, silverware, various serving bowls, and there is a dining table with 4 chairs for the whole family to sit down and enjoy a meal. The downstairs also features our newly-remodeled bathroom, with beautiful slate shower and rainfall showerhead. We provide luxurious Beekman 1802 shampoo, body wash, and conditioner in an environmentally-friendly dispenser, as well as towels and washcloths. But upstairs is where you're sure to fall in love with the Summit Suite... Pass up the stairs and you'll enter a cozy vintage wonderland! The wood-paneled walls reflect the warm glow of the whimsical lighting, and a beautiful stone chimney with gas fireplace sits as a focal point in the center of the room. On the far side, you'll find a cozy queen bed with flannel sheets, and on the opposite there's a bunkbed for the kiddos as well as an impossibly-comfortable leather chair next to an authentic 1930s vintage stand-up radio. Meanwhile, in the center of the room, you'll find a sprawling leather sectional with plenty of room for everyone, and a side hutch filled with puzzles and games. The bookshelves contain a treasure trove of classic, vintage, and nature books... Why not fire up the fireplace, grab a warm drink and get lost in a good story? Or, pull down the enormous 100" projector screen and watch a movie in style! The Roku sound bar provides amazing audio, as well as access to our Netflix and Amazon Prime Video subscriptions (and feel free to sign in to your own Disney+, Hulu, or other streaming accounts!) Need to get some work done? You'll love the little roll-top desk workspace tucked in the back of the room, complete with green banker's lamp and retro telephone to make you feel like you're back in time. We have fast Starlink satellite internet and WiFi 6 for the best connection you can get in the area. Outside the room, you'll have access to the shared hot tub, tucked back in a private space in our garden away from all the rooms. It's located in a gazebo, so you can enjoy it even when it's raining! The hot tub is shared with guests in our other rooms and is first come, first served; we just ask that guests limit their hot tub time to an hour or so. There is separate gazebo with gas grill and picnic table in our garden where you can grill up some post-hike burgers, and a hammock so you can relax in the sunshine during the warmer months! Our property also backs right up to Ashford County Park, which features a small network of paved trails that meander through beautiful woods. Follow our small gravel trail (look for the gravel going into the woods between the hot tub and vintage travel trailer) to connect up with the main park trail, and enjoy and nice evening stroll! We are also walking distance to several dining options and stores here in Ashford, including BaseCamp Bar and Grill (open April-Oct), The Highlander, Whittaker Bunkhouse Cafe, Rise and Grind Coffee, Ashford Pottery, and more!

Other Details to Note

Note that the lodge has another unit in the front half of the house where I (Scott, the owner) sometimes stay, but I often travel for work so there's a good chance you'll have the whole building to yourself. In any case, the units are completely separate, with separate entrances, bathrooms, and kitchens, so you'll have complete privacy either way. As Ashford Lodge has several other AirBNB units, you may encounter other guests while at the property. But that's part of the fun! Many new friends have been made here roasting marshmallows around our communal campfire. But if it's peace and quiet you're after, there are plenty of hidden spots around the property to relax and unwind by yourself; and of course, you'll have your suite completely to yourself.

Neighborhood

Ashford is the last little town before reaching the entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park, and is a quiet, friendly place! First of all, our property backs right up to Ashford County Park, with a mile of easy hiking trails through some pretty woods! Grab a morning coffee and go for a nice walk! We have a gravel trail that leads from our property to the park (head back towards the fire pit and you'll see it!) Dining options: BaseCamp Bar and Grill (seasonally from April to October) - Located RIGHT NEXT to our property (seriously, just a short walk) they feature great pizzas, burgers, local craft beer, and outdoor seating! They close at 8pm. Trailhead Bar and Grill - Another easy walk, if you're looking for something later, they are open til midnight and feature fantastic burgers and drinks. And now, breakfast on weekends! Breakfast: If you're looking for something simple, the Cafe at Whittaker's Bunkhouse is just a short walk up the road and features great espresso drinks and breakfast sandwiches. Copper Creek Restaurant - If you're looking for a hearty breakfast, this is the place! A 5 minute drive towards the park entrance, this legendary local spot has the stacks of pancakes and hearty omelets you're looking for. Be sure to get some of their blackberry pie, it's famous for a reason! Trailhead Bar and Grill - Only open for breakfast on weekends, but it's great food! Paradise Village Ukrainian Cuisine - Their crepes are amazing! Recommend ordering ahead; they can sometimes take a while, but the food is very good. Groceries and Gas: Ashford Grocery is one of two little general stores. They have basic groceries, including a wide selection of good-quality microwaveable meals if you're looking for something cheap and easy, as well as a gas station with both gas and diesel. Suver's General Store, also within walking distance, has more grocery options and assorted odds and ends if you forgot something at home..

One of the best AirBnB stays we've had. Scott's place is super cool; a real sense of staying in a timeless cabin. The appointments were very thoughtful. Both practical and charming at the same time. We appreciated all the indirect lighting, and the heating/cooling options (easy to use). Beds were comfortable - flannel sheets. Hwy noise is a small factor, but it didn't diminish from our overall stay. And Scott was super responsive to our questions. Fully recommend staying here.

Wow, what a charming BnB! It looked like a YouTube ambience I’d choose for a wintery day, just lovely. The lighting was soft and warm, and the electric fireplace was cozy and toasty! The back yard area is really beautiful, too. Location was also very nice. You are walking distance to Whittaker mountaineering (it’s literally next door) for renting snow gear and tire chains (20 a day, cheaper than gas station), and there’s also a Whittaker bunkhouse cafe with delicious coffee and great prices! A few minutes down the road Paradise Village Restaurant was our favorite place to eat with its fresh Ukrainian food. Try the veggie crepes, so yummy. The host also lives in the “apartment” attached to the Summit Suite, so he was able to quickly address any concerns or questions right away and it was nice to know you’re not in the middle of nowhere. Eatonville was the closest big town, and MRNP is mins away! The roads leading to and from the lodge are well maintained and easy to drive on. Loved!
